It CAN Happen to You

By Scott Morris

As I’m writing this, I have a heavy heart. Less than an hour ago, I found out that my cousin Brad was killed in a car wreck. He was less than two months away from his 18th birthday. It is a very real and sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the nearness of eternity. I am a very young man. I am only 21 years old. Yet, here is someone nearly four years younger than I am who has stepped out into eternity.

The Bible warns us against counting on having another day. Proverbs 27:1 gives us this warning: “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” How many times have we heard someone say, “I’ll do that tomorrow,” or “I’ve got plenty of time?” We’ve heard them say “I’m going to live to be 100 anyway.” Someone has said that these are famous last words. Unfortunately, that is sometimes true.

It happens every day. Someone who is in the prime of their life, they have everything to look forward to, their life is ahead of them: it suddenly ends. Accidents happen every day. People die every day. There truly is no guarantee of tomorrow. So, my question to you is, if it did happen to you, where would you be?

Everyday, people put off the matter of salvation, saying, “I’ll take care of it another time,” or, “I’ll do it when I’m older,” or, “I’ll do it when I’m on my death bed.” Did you ever stop to think you might not have a death bed? Did you ever stop to think you might not have another chance? We find a man in the Bible who uttered similar words. His name was Felix. After hearing the testimony of Paul, he trembles and says these words: “Go thy way for this time; when I have a more convenient season, I will call for thee.” Also, we find King Agrippa saying these words to the Apostle Paul: “Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.” As far as we know, neither one of these men ever called for Paul again. As far as we know, they both slipped into eternity without Christ. If you put off accepting Christ, your story could be just as tragic.

Don’t let the story of your life be the words of this song:

“Almost persuaded” now to believe;
“Almost persuaded” Christ to receive;
Seems now some soul to say,
“Go, Spirit, go Thy way,
Some more convenient day
On Thee I’ll call.”

“Almost persuaded,” come, come today;
“Almost persuaded,” turn not away;
Jesus invites you here,
Angels are lingering near
Prayers rise from hearts so dear;
O wanderer, come!

“Almost persuaded,” harvest is past!
“Almost persuaded,” doom comes at last!
“Almost” cannot avail;
“Almost” is but to fail!
Sad, sad, that bitter wail—
“Almost,” but lost!

My friend, those in eternity would plead with you not to delay. In Luke 16, we find the story of the rich man and Lazarus. When the two men died, we are told that Lazarus was comforted in Heaven and the rich man was tormented in Hell. Both of these men would urge you not to wait until it’s too late. Lazarus would tell you that Heaven is too sweet to miss for a little earthly pleasure. The rich man would tell you that Hell is too hot to put off salvation. There is far too much to gain and far too much to lose to put off the matter of salvation.

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, please take care of this today. Please, ask Christ today to save you. Ask Him to forgive your sins, to come into your heart and save you. If you’re still not sure or you have more questions, click on this link or e-mail me. I will be more than happy to try to help you. This is, after all, the most important decision you will ever make. Please, don’t wait.
