HOMOSEXUALITY: ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLE OR ABOMINATION? By Scott Morris |
|
I will say out front that I know
that the title to this article will offend many. To those that would be
offended, I would offer these words in the beginning. John 8:32: “And ye
shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” My points will come
from the pages of the Bible – the Truth of God. These are not my feelings –
they are the truths of the Word of God. I will also offer these verses:
Romans 3:3&4: “For what if some did not believe? Shall their unbelief
make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but
every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy
sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. Don’t simply take my
word for it. See if what I say truly lines up with the Word of God. If it
does and you don’t like this, you’re not getting angry at me; you’re getting
angry at God. In
Genesis 18:20-21, the Bible says, “And the LORD said, Because the cry of
Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will
go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry
of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.” We see in these
verses that the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were involved in what the LORD
called “very grievous” sin. We know that God hates sin, because it is by
definition, the violation of His law (Romans 7:7). This particular sin,
however, God called “very grievous.” This particular sin would seem to be one
that God really despises. That
said, I would like to point out now that although God hates sin, He does not
hate sinners. Rather, He deeply loves sinners. I thank God that He loves
sinners. I thank God that He loves the unlovable such as I. First Timothy
1:15 gives us these wonderful words: “This is am faithful saying, and worthy
of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of
whom I am chief.” Paul, a man who declared himself to be the chief of
sinners, reminds us that God sent His Son to die for our sin. Praise God!
Although He hates sin, He still loves us. In
Genesis 19:5-7, we find out what this sin was: “And they called unto Lot, and
said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them
out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them,
and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so
wickedly.” We see
from these verses that Sodom’s sin was homosexuality. Lot, who was a
righteous man, called it wicked. Paul addresses this wickedness in Romans
1:26-28: “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even
their women did change the natural use unto that which against nature: And
likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their
lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and
receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And
even as they did not like to retain
God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those
things which are not convenient.” Did you
see that? God called the sin of homosexuality “vile affections.” God takes a
step further than that in Leviticus 18:22: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind,
as with womankind: it is abomination.” God calls homosexuality an
abomination. It is clear that this is a sin that God absolutely despises. He
uses very strong language in its description. What
hope is there then? Is there any hope left for the one caught up in homosexuality?
It there any chance to be reconciled with God? Friend, I am glad to tell you
that there is still hope. I Corinthians 6:9-11 says, “Know ye not that the
unrighteousness shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived:
neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor
abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards,
nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such
were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are
justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” There
is hope in Christ! Christ can take that sin and change your heart if you will
allow him to. If you are willing to confess your sin and turn away from it and
accept the gift of salvation that Christ paid for on the cross, you can have
forgiveness. All you
must do is ask Him to forgive your sins, and ask Him into your heart. Ask Him
to save you and He will. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved.” Romans 10:13. If you
